MaKenna is 2 weeks old. This past week was pretty uneventful. Same ol' Same ol'. Ken and I have been living from one day to the next still pretty much in survival mode. We have to check our phones to see what day it is and trying to recall previous days of the week of certain happenings is almost impossible. MaKenna has begun to grow and change. She is currently taking a nap in her crib. This is a HUGE first. It has only been 30 minutes or so but progress is progress. Ken and I hope to finish our thank you notes this week so that everyone will know how much we appreciate the gifts, phone calls, dinners, and visits.
Yesterday, we had our first restaurant outing to Red Robin for lunch. We have pretty much figured out that MaKenna travels best in her car seat if she is asleep. Her sleep patterns during the day have been non-existent meaning that she may sleep anywhere from 30 minutes after a feeding to 2 hours if we hold her without too much movement. Thankfully, she is sleeping at night in between feedings which are about 3 hours apart. Take into consideration that it takes about 45 minutes to feed her each time. So mom and baby get about 2 hours of sleep at a time. MaKenna is definitely a daddy's girl. She loves to be held and sung to by Ken. He also would much prefer to hold her versus lay her down or let even me hold her. :)
MaKenna has her 2 week check up tomorrow and we will visit a lactation consultant after the appoint to make sure she is latching on properly when feeding.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

She is absolutely adorable!!
Wow, what a beauty! She is an absolutely gorgeous baby girl and I am happy for you that you are slowly adjusting to each other.
The sleeping and feeding rhythm gets better once she is aware of this day/night difference. And three hours in between nursing sessions at night are great for a start!
You'll make it - really I feel with you in so many things having a little one just six weeks older!
Oh and thank you notes - yeah, still working on these, too. At least I got a little something (almost) on the way to MaKenna finally!
Lots of love and a very great new year 2009 to all of you,
Tanja and the family
